Arrive Friday evening or early Saturday morning. 5-minute walk south from Centraal to Markt — Eindhoven's main square, rebuilt post-WWII (the city was heavily bombed in 1944). The Catharinakerk (1867, neo-Gothic) is the oldest surviving building in the centre. Check into your hotel, then walk south to Stratumseind — 225m of 30+ bars and clubs, quiet before 20:00, transforming after 21:00 on Friday and Saturday. Friday evening is the best time for a first drink on the street before it gets crowded: Café De Lachende Vis (1846, the oldest bar on the street), Down Town Gourmet (craft beer), or Stadsbrouwerij Eindhoven (brewery taproom, own-brewed pilsner).
Practical Tips
Book the bike rental for Day 2 (Nuenen) at Centraal station OV-fiets kiosk the evening before — if you need a Hello-Bike, download the app before arrival.
Stratumseind Friday: arrives at full pace 22:00–03:00. Thursday (student night) is more local, cheaper; Saturday is more mixed-tourist. Sunday is the quietest by far.
Café De Lachende Vis (Stratumseind 33, VERIFY current name — "The Laughing Fish"): reportedly open since 1846, making it one of the oldest bars in North Brabant. Classic Dutch brown café atmosphere before the rest of the street goes nightclub.
Stadsbrouwerij Eindhoven (VERIFY current Stratumseind location): the city's own brewery — try the Straatum Lager or the seasonal Brabant IPA before moving on.
