Metro A to Staroměstská (2 stops from main station), or walk 12 minutes through the Na Příkopě pedestrian zone. Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) is the medieval heart of the city — surrounded by Gothic, Baroque, and Rococo facades that have stood since the 13th century. The Astronomical Clock (Orloj, 1410) is on the south face of the Old Town Hall — its hourly chime (09:00–23:00) produces a 90-second parade of wooden apostles. The tower climb (~12€) gives city views. The Týn Church (twin 80-metre towers flanking the square) has a beautiful Gothic interior — free, check mass schedule. The Jan Hus Memorial (1915) in the centre of the square is a useful orientation landmark.

Practical Tips

Astronomical Clock tower: climb for views, not for the chime — the chime is visible for free from the square. Pre-book online at prague.eu/en to skip the ticket queue. Last entry typically 30 min before closing (21:00 in summer).
The square is most photographable 07:00–09:00 in spring/autumn (golden light, few tourists, café chairs being set up). By 11:00 in summer: wall-to-wall tour groups.
Týn Church (Kostel Panny Marie Před Týnem): the bronze statue of Lady Luck on the altar was cast from Tycho Brahe's beard, per legend. Brahe (the 16th-century astronomer) is actually buried here — check the floor plaques.
Kafka Museum (Cihelná 2b, Malá Strana) is not on this route — if you're a Kafka devotee, allocate 90 minutes and cross Charles Bridge to see it.
Best coffee near the square: Café Louvre (Národní 22, 5 min walk) — Art Nouveau 1902, billiard tables, the most authentically Central European café atmosphere in Prague.
